Wal-Mart - self-checkout change?

mmmm...well it's been a while since my last update.

Anyways....I went to Cocoa Wal-Mart today and the local wal-mart now has a 10 item MINIMUM for self-checkout? What's the deal with THAT?

And when I first saw the introduction of 12+ self-checkout kiosks (6 on each end of the store....approximate) - I thought this was Sam Walton's move to lay-off some cashiers!...I mean seriously.....you can have one cashier "monitoring" 4 kiosks...and that's some savings there, instead of hiring 4 cashiers..

We asked the cashier (SHE WASN'T A ROBOT! lol...)when we finally made it up through the line 15 minutes later. The lady said it was some new thing due to a "system change" where the bags need to be weighed as the groceries are checked out?

Who knows....but I loved the self-checkout system, even if it did cause some lay-offs of Wal-Mart cashiers.

October 5th is the most common birthday (atleast in America); the theory is that the child would have been conceived on New Years Eve.

Why is May 22nd the least common birthdate? Who knows, maybe it's just too hot :P

#Privacy: The Search Privacy Standard

This is really a neat site. From the site:

Pound Privacy" is a campaign to create the first standard for search engine query privacy. The implementation is fairly straightforward: If you append the phrase "#privacy" at the end of a query on any search engine or site search, your query should not be tracked by IP or cookie, and should not be made public in keyword tools. It is that simple.

This would force the top three search engines (Google, MSN, Yahoo) to create a new parameter so that a search query such as:

dog training #privacy

Would not be "logged"/saved to the user's profile.

As it stands currently, nearly every query you enter into a search engine is saved.

As the campaign states, there would be exceptions/flags put into place, if a user is using a query such as "murder" "suicide" or other "flagged" words alongside the #privacy tag, it would be ignored.

There's P2p, and now there's G2p. This site is smart, and uses the google search parameters to find mp3s or ebooks for the search term you type in. Basically, for those of us too lazy to memorize the google parameters to search apache indexes.

Google: Online storage, the next big thing?

The article mentions a powerpoint presentation that Google presented to some financial analysts. It sounds interesting, and a good idea, if it's secure.

The article states that "we can make your online copy more secure than it would be on your own machine." To an extent, I can see where they are coming from. Atleast a grandma who executes the latest notorious virus/trojan won't risk losing her identity due to some hackers getting a hold of her tax information which is saved onto her harddrive. Instead, it will be housed on Google's systems.

From valleywag.com's Overheard. Title explains it, really. tinyurl.com is a neat service to shorten, maybe even "hide" (in the case of affiliate links?) long urls.

This site is great ;) And now with a "Preview" option so you can "screen" the URL before getting forwarded to it.
